Shreyas Iyer got angry with Shashank Singh over his casual run-out in Qualifier 2 match.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) lost the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 to end as runners-up of the tournament. They failed to chase down a 191-run target against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and lost by a close margin of six runs.

Shashank Singh hammered a crucial knock of unbeaten 61 runs in the chase, however, he failed to take his team home. The right-handed batsman earned a lot of accolades from his teammates as well as fans for his fightback till the end in the final.

However, ahead of the final, he was scolded by skipper Shreyas Iyer in the Qualifier 2 match against Mumbai Indians (MI). PBKS skipper Iyer played a wonderful knock of an unbeaten 87 runs in the match during a 204-run chase to take his team home. During the climax of the chase, Shashank Singh lost his wicket through a casual run-out.

I deserve it – Shashank Singh on getting scolded by Shreyas Iyer

Later, the PBKS skipper scolded him on the field after winning the game. The video of the moment also went viral on social media. Speaking about the incident, Shashank said he deserved it as he became casual on the field. He also added that Iyer later took him for dinner.

“I deserve it, Iyer should have slapped me, my father didn’t speak to me till the finals. I was casual, I was walking on the beach not even in the garden. It was a crucial time, Shreyas was clear that I didn’t expect this from you but later he took me out for dinner,” the 33-year-old told Indian Express.

Notably, Iyer became the first player in IPL history to lead three teams to the finals of the tournament. According to Singh, there is no better captain than Iyer in world cricket at the moment.

“Whatever I have spoken to others and seen, there is no better captain than him in current times in world cricket. He gives us freedom, he treats everyone equally. No one will say, Shreyas has an attitude. The youngsters in the dressing room find him to be a chill bandaa”, the middle-order batter said.

Shreyas is the only captain, who has told us that if anyone has any suggestions during the game, he can come and convey it to him. If he feels it’s the right advice, he will take it. It’s rare,” he further added.

Meanwhile, Singh played a dominant role in the middle-order for PBKS in IPL 2025. At an average of 50.0 and a strike rate of 153.50, he mustered 350 runs in the league. He also hammered three half-centuries in the season and slammed 18 sixes during the entire tournament.
