The remainder of IPL 2025 has been suspended for one week by the BCCI.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided an official update on the future of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Friday, May 9. Notably, the 59th match of IPL 2025 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was stopped midway on Thursday, May 8.

The encounter was underway at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala as planned. However, it could not be completed and got halted in the first innings due to technical issues inside the stadium.

The floodlights inside the HPCA stadium stopped working as there was a power outage in the city. Players, umpires, match officials, support staff, and spectators were evacuated from the stadium quickly. BCCI then also worked to bring back all the players and match officials from Dharamsala to Delhi by train as air travel has been affected in the city.

IPL 2025 suspended for one week with immediate effect

On Thursday (May 8), IPL vice-president Rajiv Shukla informed that the PBKS vs DC match could not be continued due to security issues. He also added that BCCI will take a confirmed decision about the future of IPL 2025 the following day.

Now, the BCCI has released an official statement and informed that the league has been suspended for one week with immediate effect. Also, the new schedule and venues for the remaining matches will be announced in a few days.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” read the official statement from BCCI.

Meanwhile, IPL 2025 has witnessed a total of 58 games, excluding the PBKS vs DC clash; which was abandoned on Thursday. A total of 74 games are to be played during the league. Hence, a total of 16 games are left including the playoffs and the final. Currently, Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) take the top two spots in the points table.

Notably, The Resistance Front (TRF) – a terror outfit based in Pakistan – killed 26 innocent victims in the Pahalgam town in Kashmir valley on April 22. Later, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor in the wee hours of Wednesday, May 7 and attacked nine terrorist camps inside Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK).

Following this, there has been tension in the Indo-Pak border, and as a result, cities like Dharamsala have been affected. Earlier, BCCI also condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam City and paid tribute to the victims during an earlier game between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
