IPL 2025: Wasim Jaffer predicts winners of Orange and Purple cap ahead of the tournament

IPL 2025 will feature 74 matches.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) will make its much-awaited return for the 18th edition on Saturday, March 22 and will feature defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the opening game.

As is the case every year, the tournament has brought excitement and energy among fans who expect the season to be nothing less than a blockbuster.

Mumbai Indians (MI) have been termed early favorites for the tournament, while Punjab Kings (PBKS) have been labeled as the dark horses under the coaching of Australian legend Ricky Ponting.

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has now joined the trend and shared his prediction on who will win the Orange Cap (most runs in a season) and Purple Cap (most wickets in a season) for IPL 2025. The 47-year-old has surprisingly picked two young Indian players to emerge as stars this year.

The former India opener backed Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh to finish as the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker of IPL 2025 respectively.

Jaffer wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “IPL is almost here. Drop your orange cap, purple cap predictions below. I’m leaning towards Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep.“

Both Sudharsan and Arshdeep have emerged as two of the most consistent players in the last few seasons of the tournament. Since making his IPL debut in 2022, Sai has scored 1034 runs in 25 matches at an average of 47 and a strike rate of 140.

Arshdeep, on the other hand, recently surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal to become India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is. He was also one of the most expensive players at the IPL 2025 mega auction, signing with Punjab Kings for a whopping INR 18 crores.
