Indian batter Venkatesh Iyer was sold to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) auction. RCB spent INR 7 crore for him in the mini-action, which is taking place in Abu Dhabi on December 16.
Iyer was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2025 but was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction. He failed to mark a mark with the bat last season, hitting 142 runs in 11 games at an average of 20.29, smacking just one fifty in the tournament.
Iyer made his debut in the 2021 season and was retained by KKR over the years. He has experience of 62 matches in the IPL, hitting 1468 runs at an average of 29.96, with one ton and 12 half-centuries.
Venkatesh Iyer to play for RCB in IPL 2026
RCB, the defending champions of IPL, did not shy away from spending a huge amount for Iyer. This will be the second team that Iyer will represent in the tournament. He made his debut for KKR in the IPL 2021 edition and was backed by the franchise in their squad over the years.
However, ahead of IPL 2026 mini-auction, the three-time champions wished to part ways with him. Iyer is a capped player who has represented India in two ODIs and nine T20Is so far.
He made his international debut in a T20I against New Zealand in 2021 and last played for the Men in Blue in February 2022 in a T20I clash against Sri Lanka. He has active in domestic cricket, where he represents Madhya Pradesh team.
