The IPL 2026 auction took place on December 16 in Abu Dhabi.
Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) introduced a new rule for the overseas players. According to this rule, there was a maximum cap of INR 18 crore for the foreign players in the IPL 2026 auction. This came into existence after the franchise raised concerns, saying foreign players register mostly for the mini-auctions in a bid to get more money.
Hence, if a franchise spends more than INR 18 crore on any foreign player, he will only get INR 18 crore and the rest of the amount will be transferred to BCCI’s players’ welfare fund. However, the rule only applies to the overseas players and domestic players will get their entire amount.
For instance, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green got INR 25.20 crore from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the mini auction, however, he will only get INR 18 crore and the remaining 7.20 crore will be transferred to BCCI’s players’ welfare fund.
