IPL 2025: What injury ruled out Adam Zampa of the tournament? Revealed

Smaran Ravichandran replaced Adam Zampa in SRH squad for IPL 2025.
On Monday, 14 April, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) confirmed their overseas spinner Adam Zampa has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The right-arm spinner played two games earlier for SRH at the start as an Impact Player. However, he later missed four consecutive games.
Notably, Zampa was quite expensive in his first two outings. He leaked 48 runs in his spell in SRH’s first clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and later conceded 46 runs in his second game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He picked up two wickets across these two games at an economy of 11.75.
Following Zampa’s injury and him getting ruled out, SRH inducted Smaran Ravichandran as replacement for remainder of the season. Smaran has been roped in for a price of INR 30 lakhs. Interestingly, Smaran shares a completely different profile from Zampa. He is a left-handed batsman. Smaran hails from Karnataka and has represented the state team in Indian domestic cricket.
Adam Zampa ruled out of IPL 2025 due to shoulder injury
On Monday, it was confirmed that Zampa has been ruled out of remainder of the tournament. However, the reason behind his ouster wasn’t mentioned in the statement released by the official IPL website. Now, it has been revealed that the Australian leg-spinner has been ruled out IPL 2025 due to a recurrence of an old shoulder injury. After his first two games in the tournament, he suffered soreness in his shoulder. As a result, the Aussie spinner flew back to Australia for further medical treatment.
He faced the injury for the first time ahead of ICC ODI World Cup 2023. However, he recovered in time and participated in the ICC event in India, where Australia won the trophy. Zampa ended up as the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament. Notably, Zampa could have returned to IPL 2025 after an initial medical assessment. However, Pat Cummins & Co. chose to replace him with Karnataka batter Smaran.
Meanwhile, SRH have played six games in IPL 2025. They have won two games and lost four out of six. With four points, they currently occupy ninth spot in the points table. They will next face Mumbai Indians on Thursday, April 17, at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
