Shubman Gill will lead Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025.
Torrent Group has formally completed the long-awaited takeover of Gujarat Titans (GT) weeks before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has approved the transfer of control from Irelia Sports India Private Limited (CVC Capital) to the Torrent Group. The Torrent Group will hold 67 percent shares of the franchise now.
The Torrent Group is a diversified conglomerate with interests in the healthcare and energy sectors. They announced the successful completion of their acquisition of the majority stake on Monday, March 17.
After the control transfer, CVC will retain a minority stake of 33 percent, maintaining its ongoing association with the franchise.

According to Cricbuzz, the sale was completed at an enterprise valuation of Rs 7,522 crores, meaning Torrent bought the 67 percent stake for Rs 5,035 crores.
Torrent confirmed that it finalized the acquisition “following the receipt of all necessary approvals, including from the BCCI.“
According to the agreement, the BCCI is entitled to five percent of every transaction conducted within the ownership group.
Earlier, CVC had bought the franchise for INR 5,625 crores in 2022, which means the IPL team has seen an appreciation in its value to the tune of INR 1,897 crores – close to 34 percent.
The takeover of the franchise had been speculated since CVC bought it in 2022. However, due to the initial three-year lock-in period, during which the transfer of management was not permitted, the sale was not announced.
In their short three-year stay in the tournament, the Titans have emerged as one of the strongest teams in the competition, winning the trophy in the 2022 edition before finishing as runners-up in 2023. However, they couldn’t make it to the playoffs and finished eighth in the 2024 edition.
The franchise will begin their IPL 2025 campaign on Tuesday, March 25, against Punjab Kings at their home ground, Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, under the leadership of Shubman Gill.
