Aakash Chopra and Harbhajan Singh are currently part of the commentary team in IPL 2025.

Former Indian cricketers turned commentators Aakash Chopra and Harbhajan Singh have urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to modify a crucial rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chopra and Harbhajan Singh are active commentators in the ongoing IPL 2025.

Both of them have been part of the commentary panel for the last few seasons. In IPL 2025, they also provide analysis at the start and end of each game. The IPL 2025 resumed on Saturday, May 17, with the 58th game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

The encounter was scheduled to take place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, the clash was abandoned without toss due to rain. As the match got delayed, commentators Singh and Chopra had discussions over the highest run-scorers and highest wicket-takers in the league

Aakash Chopra and Harbhajan Singh want BCCI to modify rule for orange cap and purple cap winners

During the conversation on JioHotstar, Chopra noted that the rule for the Orange Cap and Purple Cap should be modified a little. The 47-year-old said the winners for both awards should be decided after the end of the league stage.

Chopra also noted that the teams that qualify for the playoffs play three more games than the teams that are eliminated from the playoffs race. Hence, the players from teams that qualify for playoffs get three more matches than the other players. Hence, it does not form a fair competition.

Hence, he urged that BCCI should try to modify this rule. Harbhajan also agreed with Chopra’s views on the matter. Notably, Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently placed in the sixth spot in Orange Cap leaderboard. He also held the Orange Cap earlier in the season. The left-handed batsman has 473 runs in his kitty with five half-centuries.

However, since RR are already eliminated from the playoffs, it will be tough for Jaiswal to win the Orange Cap. Suryakumar Yadav (MI) currently owns the Orange Cap. Virat Kohli (RCB) is another player among the top five highest run-scorers.

Gujarat Titans (GT) batters Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler are the other three batters in the list of top five highest run-scorers this season. MI, RCB, and GT are among favourites to reach the playoffs in IPL 2025.
