Jasprit Bumrah has 165 IPL wickets in 133 games, all for the Mumbai Indians.

Jasprit Bumrah joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) team before Monday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 home match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), which is a huge boost for the struggling MI.

This is after Bumrah received medical clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. However, before he is considered fully healthy enough to compete, he must finish match simulations. The 31-year-old bowler might return to the starting lineup when MI play the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday, April 13.

Jasprit Bumrah had been out action since January as he suffered back problems during the Sydney Test against Australia. He visited the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and even consulted the foreign doctor who performed his back surgery in 2023 before starting his rehab.

Bumrah missed the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the first few matches for MI in IPL 2025. And his absence has been a critical factor in MI’s fluctuating fortunes this IPL season.

Bumrah has been a vital part of the MI bowling lineup since his debut in 2013. He has taken 165 wickets in 133 games. The pacer only missed the 2023 season because of a back problem.

The lion is back: MI announce Jasprit Bumrah’s arrival on social media

Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the Mumbai Indians was announced on social media by the team in a video called “Ready to Roar.”  The great pacer is expected to miss Monday’s match at the Wankhede Stadium against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 7.

In the announcement video, Sanjana Ganesan tells Angad about his father, Jasprit Bumrah, and his IPL career with the Mumbai Indians.

“Angad, let me tell you a story. In 2013, there was a cub who entered this jungle. A jungle full of runs, sixers, and boundaries. Where everyone was scared, he showed courage. Over the years, he fought many battles. He fought for survival, he fought for his pride.

“Then he lost, but never gave up. These battles left him with scars. But these scars didn’t stop him. Once a cub, now the lion. The lion is back. He is back to be the king of this jungle again,” Sanjana Ganesan, Jasprit Bumrah’s wife, said.

Bumrah’s return will be very helpful to MI, who have lost three of their first four T20 games in IPL 2025. MI also gave IPL debuts to Ashwani Kumar and Satyanarayana Raju, two quick bowlers, while Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar spearheaded the pace attack in his absence.
