MI catting coach Kieron Pollard believes Rohit Sharma is a legend of the game.

Mumbai Indians (MI) batting coach Kieron Pollard has backed Rohit Sharma after his poor show in the initial games of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Pollard feels one should not judge the former MI skipper based on a few batting failures.

Shockingly, Sharma has struggled to provide a good start to MI in the first three games. The opening batsman got out for a duck in their first encounter against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In the next two games against Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Rirders, he lost his wicket for eight and 13 runs respectively.

We’ll be singing Rohit Sharma’s praises soon: Kieron Pollard

Despite Sharma’s poor outing in the first three clashes, Pollard has backed him to come up with a good show in forthcoming games. The former West Indies all-rounder believes Sharma is a legend of the game, who has scripted his name in the record books.

“I’ve played alongside Rohit since Under-19 cricket and he has forged his name and etched his name in history in the record books, in different situations, different formats of the game. He is a legend of the game in his own right, and as an individual as well,” Pollard was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

Pollard also noted that one should not judge Sharma based on a couple of low scores, and the MI star will come up with big batting shows in forthcoming games.

“There are times when you have a couple of low scores. He has earned the right as an individual to now enjoy his cricket and not be pressurised in certain situations. So let’s not judge on a couple of low scores,” Pollard further said.

“In cricket, we know we fail more than we succeed, and I’m sure we’ll be singing his praises when he gives us that big score, and then we’ll be on to the next hot topic,” the former MI all-rounder further added.

Sharma has accounted for just 21 runs across the first three games and needs to buckle up his batting performance. Suryakumar Yadav is the leading run-getter for MI after three games with 104 runs.

MI face dismal start in IPL 2025

Meanwhile, MI have struggled to come up with a marvellous start in IPL 2025. Hardik Pandya & Co. lost their opening match to CSK by four wickets. Later, they also lost the second clash against GT by 36 runs.

However, the five-time IPL champions made an comeback in their last match against KKR, winning by a huge margin of eight wickets. MI bowled out KKR for just 116 in the first innings with debutant Ashwani Kumar’s four-wicket haul. Later, they chased down the target with ease.
