IPL 2025: KL Rahul completes 8000 T20 runs; Breaks Virat Kohli's Indian record to fastest to the milestone

KL Rahul is part of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025.
Indian cricketer KL Rahul has become the fastest Indian batsman to reach 8000 runs in T20 cricket during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The right-handed batsman achieved the record during the clash between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday, May 18.
The DC vs GT, match 60 of IPL 2025 is currently underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. GT skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Rahul opened the innings for DC with Faf du Plessis. The right-handed batsman also reached his half-century in the ninth over of the first innings.
KL Rahul breaks Virat Kohli’s record
As Rahul reached his 8000 T20 runs during DC vs GT clash, he broke Virat Kohli’s record. Rahul has leapfrogged Kohli to become the fastest Indian batter to reach the milestone. He reached the mark in just 224 innings. Kohli took 243 innings to score 8000 runs in T20s.
Notably, Kohli is far ahead of Rahul in total runs in T20s. He accounts for 13391 runs in 393 innings. Kohli is also the highest run-scorer in the IPL history with more than 8000 runs in his kitty. Shikhar Dhawan is the third fastest Indian batter to reach the 8000-run mark in T20s in 277 innings.
Rahul was part of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the last two seasons of the IPL. However, DC bought him for a hefty amount of INR 14 crores during IPL 2025 mega auction. Rahul is the leading run-scorer for the Capitals in IPL 2025.
He has smacked three half-centuries and a century in the ongoing season.
Meanwhile, DC grab the fifth spot in the IPL 2025 points table with 13 points. The Axar Patel & Co. have won six games and lost four matches out of 11 so far. Their one match ended with no result. They need to win all of their remaining three matches to keep their best chances alive to reach the playoffs.
