Kumar Sangakkara likely to replace Gautam Gambhir as KKR mentor - Reports

Kumar Sangakkara is currently the director of cricket of the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
According to significant reports, legendary cricketer Kumar Sangakkara might become the new mentor of the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Currently, the former Sri Lankan captain Sangakkara is the director of cricket of Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise since the IPL 2021. Under Sangakkara, RR have produced good results so far in the last three editions of the tournament.
The Royals reached the finals of the IPL 2022 edition. In the 2024 edition, the Rajasthan-based franchise finished third at the end of group stage. However, they suffered defeat in the Qualifier 2 match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 36 runs.

According to a report on the Telegraph, Sangakkara, who is the director of cricket at the Rajasthan Royals, has decided to part ways with the franchise. The report further added that Sangakkara is considering offers from other teams, and any decision on his move to Kolkata Knight Riders might be reached in the coming days.
Currently, former cricketer Chandrakant Pandit is the head coach of the defending champions KKR in the IPL. Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun is the bowling coach of the Knight Riders.
However, their mentor Gautam Gambhir, fielding coach Ryan ten Doeschate and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar have left the franchise after they joined the Indian cricket team coaching staff.
