Lockie Ferguson suffered an injury while playing for PBKS in IPL 2025.
Lockie Ferguson, who will miss the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 because of a hamstring injury, has been replaced by his New Zealand teammate Kyle Jamieson in the Punjab Kings (PBKS) squad on May 15.
On April 12, during PBKS’ game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Ferguson sustained a hamstring injury. The 33-year-old dismissed five hitters in four IPL games this season while playing for the team captained by Shreyas Iyer.
Ferguson has taken 51 wickets at an average of 30.00 and an economy of 8.97 in 49 IPL games. He has played for several IPL teams, including the Kolkata Knight Riders (2019–21), Gujarat Titans (2022), where he was instrumental in their championship run with 12 wickets, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2024).
Kyle Jamieson gives PSL a miss to join IPL franchise PBKS
For the remainder of IPL 2025, Lockie Ferguson will be replaced by Jamieson, a fast bowler from New Zealand who has played in the IPL for RCB. The IPL and the Mohali-based team both announced the development in a press release on Thursday, May 15.
“Punjab Kings (PBKS) have picked Kyle Jamieson as a replacement for Lockie Ferguson, who is ruled out of the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to a hamstring injury. The right-arm Kiwi pacer will join PBKS for INR 2 Crore,” the IPL statement read.
A few weeks ago, the Auckland-born cricket player was playing for the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He removed two batters in two games for the team captained by Saud Shakeel.
Even PBKS announced Jamieson’s inclusion on social media.
Kyle Jamieson has previously played for the RCB. He was signed for Rs 15 crores by the Bengaluru-based franchise at the IPL 2021 auction, and in nine matches for Virat Kohli’s team that season, he took eight wickets and scored 65 runs.
The 30-year-old all-rounder was also signed by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 1 crore at the IPL 2023 mini auction, but he was forced to miss the full season owing to injuries. To date, Jamieson has participated in 82 T20 matches, taking 94 wickets and scoring 461 runs.
