IPL 2025: LSG qualification scenario explained after their loss to PBKS in match No. 54

LSG still have three matches left to play in the ongoing IPL 2025.
In their recent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match played in Dharamsala, Punjab Kings (PBKS) capitalized on a strong batting performance after Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to bowl. Despite an early setback, Prabhsimran Singh (91 off 48), Josh Inglis (30), and Shreyas Iyer (45 off 25) led a commanding recovery.
Singh and Iyer’s 78-run stand powered PBKS to 236/5, with late cameos from Shashank Singh (33*) and Marcus Stoinis (15*). Akash Singh and Digvesh Rathi took two wickets each for LSG.
In reply, the visitors’ top order crumbled under pressure from Arshdeep Singh (3/16), with Pant (18) and Miller (5) failing to anchor the chase. Ayush Badoni (74) and Abdul Samad (45) added a valiant 81-run partnership, but the effort wasn’t enough. The Super Giants ended at 199/7, falling short by 37 runs. Omarzai chipped in with two wickets to seal PBKS’s win.
LSG’s IPL 2025 Playoffs Qualification Scenario
With this victory, PBKS climbed to second place in the IPL 2025 points table, securing 15 points from seven wins in 11 matches. LSG, on the other hand, remained in seventh place, with 10 points from five wins in 11 games.
The Super Giants now find themselves in hot water when it comes to playoffs qualification in the ongoing IPL 2025. They have Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.469 and 10 points from the 11 games they have played so far. Their next three opponents are the Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
LSG have a clear route to a top-four finish—likely third or fourth—if they win all three remaining games, making it a do-or-die situation from here. However, even a single loss could spell the end for their hopes for the playoffs.
Considering the fierce competition this season, even winning all three games and reaching 16 points may not guarantee a playoff berth. To boost their NRR and improve their chances, LSG will likely need to win their remaining games by significant margins.
Still, they could fall short of the potential cut-off mark of 18 points.
