India’s latest pace sensation Mayank Yadav bowled only one over before leaving the field on Sunday.

Match No. 21 of the IPL 2024 is currently underway at BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The game is being played between the hosts Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans. It has been a challenging night for LSG until their spinners brought them back into the game. After a rusty batting display, speedster Mayank Yadav also had to leave the field after an injury.

The match started with LSG winning the toss and deciding to bat first. They lost Quinton de Kock (6) and Devdutt Padikkal (7) early. KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis helped the team with a 73-run partnership for the third wicket. Rahul got out after a 31-ball 33, while Stoinis completed his half-century and made 58 off 43 balls, with 4 boundaries and 2 sixes. Nicholas Pooran did the finishing job with an unbeaten 32, and LSG finished at 163/5.

LSG vs GT: Mayank Yadav went off the field after bowling just one over

It was not a big total to defend, but LSG tried hard. Rahul brought his tearaway pacer Mayank Yadav, who was coming off two consecutive Man of the Match performances in his first two IPL games, to bowl the fourth over of the innings. Having picked up six wickets in two games and bowling at a speed of 156.7 km/h, Mayank looked off-colour in his first over.

His fastest ball in the over was 140.9 km/h, which was nowhere near his fastest ball of 156.7 kmph. He was hit for three fours in his first over by Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, and he conceded 13 runs in his first over. After finishing the over, he left the field as seen live during the match, and it looked like it was a niggle. However, there are also multiple reports emerging from the ground that the fastest bowler of this season so far left the field following a side strain injury.

There is no clear update from LSG camp, but it looked like he might not come to bowl again in the second innings. It is an important game for both teams, as both have four points each on the table. LSG won their last two games, and a win here will help them move up. On the other hand, GT have two wins and two defeats in four games.
