Vignesh Puthur picked six wickets in five games for MI in IPL 2025.

Mumbai Indians (MI) have faced a big blow in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as their key spinner Vignesh Puthur has sustained leg injury. The left-arm spinner has faced a bone stress fracture in both his left and right shins – the front part of the legs between the knees and ankles. Hence, Puthur has been ruled out of IPL 2025.

Puthur, who made his debut in IPL 2025, played five games for MI before his injury. He had decent outings as he returned with six wickets across five matches, including a three-wicket haul in one match. He bowled at an average of 18.17 and an economy of 9.08.

He led the spin attack for Hardik Pandya & Co. across six games. However, Puthur was not part of MI’s playing XI in their last match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Karn Sharma replaced him in the match.

Raghu Sharma replaces Vignesh Puhur in MI squad

The five-time champions have roped in leg spinner Raghu Sharma as a replacement for Puthur. Sharma is a domestic player from Punjab who is a right-arm leg-break spinner. He has played for Punjab and Puducherry domestic teams in the past. So far, the leg spinner has played 11 First-Class (DC) matches, nine List A matches, and three T20 matches.

He has 57 wickets in his FC career at 19.59 average and 14 scalps in List A career including a four-wicket haul. He has got three wickets in T20s. He was born in Jalandhar City of Punjab in March 1993. He will play in the tournament for the first time. MI have roped in him for INR 30 lakhs.

Meanwhile, MI have shown a wonderful form in the tournament. They have won six games and lost four out of 10. With 12 points, they grab the third spot in the points table. They have won five back-to-back games and look among the favourites to make it to the playoffs. They will next face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their next clash on Thursday, May 1. The clash will be played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
