IPL 2025: Mohammed Shami registers unwanted record after conceding 75 runs in SRH vs PBKS clash

Mohammed Shami is unarguably one of the finest bowlers to ever play for Team India. However, the right-arm pacer registered an unwanted record during match No. 27 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
The 27th match of IPL 2025 is currently underway between SRH and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad.
Shami is part of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2025. During the clash on Saturday, April 12, the SRH pacer leaked 75 runs across his four overs. Shami also went wicketless in his spell as PBKS smacked a gigantic total of 245/6 in the match. The right-arm speedster bowled at an expensive economy rate of 18.80.
Shreyas Iyer-led PBKS registered their second-highest total in the IPL during the clash. Iyer powered the team to the mountainous total with his quickfire 82 off just 36 balls, slamming six boundaries and six sixes in the process.

Mohammed Shami bowls most expensive spell by an Indian bowler in IPL
Notably, Shami now accounts for the most expensive spell by an Indian bowler in the IPL history. Earlier, Mohit Sharma, playing for Gujarat Titans, held the record by giving away 73 runs during a clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2024.
Overall, Shami has bowled the second-most expensive spell in the IPL history. Earlier in the ongoing tournament, England pacer Jofra Archer conceded 76 runs in his four-over spell in a clash against SRH. Archer is part of Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2025. That is the worst spell by any bowler in the IPL so far.

Shami was part of GT in the last season. However, the franchise released him from the squad before the IPL 2025 mega auction. At the auction, the Sunrisers acquired him for INR 10 crores. He was SRH’s second costliest player after Ishan Kishan (INR 11.25 crores).
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins-led SRH are the worst performers in IPL 2025. They have won just one game and lost four out of five. With two points, they are placed 10th in the points table.
