Rohit Sharma slammed consecutive fifties in his previous two outings in IPL 2025.

Mumbai Indians (MI) batting coach Kieron Pollard has heaped praise on opener Rohit Sharma after the latter returned to his good form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Sharma, who got out for low scores in his initial games, hammered match-winning knocks for MI during the last two encounters. Notably, the right-handed batsman slammed a match-winning half-century in the previous clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

In the prior clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he slammed an unbeaten half-century to power MI to victory. However, the former MI skipper struggled at the start of the season. He registered scores of 0,8,13,17,19, and 26 in his first six games.

Now we are singing his praises: Kieron Pollard on Rohit Sharma

Prior to MI’s home game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), MI batting coach Pollard lauded Sharma for his marvellous batting show in the last couple of games. However, he also added that he always believed that Sharma would regain his form.

“If my memory serves me right, at the start of this competition, that question was different. I said sitting right here, we are also going to be singing his praises as an individual. For us, we always had that belief that he is going to come good. There are dips. There is low confidence. But for someone who has played this sport for a long time, you have these moments,” the MI batting coach said.

Interestingly, Pollard had backed Sharma at the start of the tournament when the MI batter failed with the bat in his first few games. He said that one should not judge him by a couple of low scores. Pollard also noted everyone is now singing Sharma’s praises and the team’s dressing room is happy with his performances.

“Sometimes you just need that extra support from people. Now we are singing his praises. We are all very happy in the Mumbai dressing room. We were happy at the start as well, knowing that it is going to happen, and long may it continue,”, the former MI all-rounder added.

Notably, Hardik Pandya & Co. have bagged four consecutive victories in their last four matches. They chased down a 144-run target by seven wickets in their last clash against SRH. Earlier, they bagged a huge victory by nine wickets against CSK by chasing a 177-run target. Sharma now accounts for 228 runs in eight games at a strike rate of 150-plus.

He is the third-highest run-scorer for MI after Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, who have mustered 373 and 233 runs respectively. Pandya and Trent Boult have clinched the most wickets in the bowling department. With five victories and four defeats across nine games, the five-time champions are currently placed fifth in the updated standings.

Surprisingly, MI had a dismal start in the ongoing tournament by losing four games out of five. They will next clash with Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match No. 45 of IPL 2025. The encounter takes place on Sunday, April 27, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
