The PBKS vs MI, Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025, has been delayed due to rain.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) are locking horns in the crucial Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday, June 1. Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad is the venue of the match. The winner of the clash will book a berth in the IPL 2025 final and will play against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Their key spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has returned to the playing XI in the clash. For MI, pacer Deepak Chahar missed out again due to hamstring injury. Also, Richard Gleeson, who played the last game, was replaced by Reece Topley due to injury.
However, as both sides took the field to start the match, rain showers occurred at the venue. Hence, Qualifier 2 has been delayed. Notably, the match needs to witness at least 5 overs per side to produce a result. Otherwise, it will be abandoned and end with no result.
What is cut-off time for 5-over-per-side game in Qualifier 2
Notably, there is a two-hour extra time for PBKS vs MI clash. Hence, the match will witness full 20 overs per side if it starts as late as 9:30 PM. However, if the match is further delayed, it will be shortened by a few overs. The cut-off time for 5 overs per side is 11:56 PM.
Interestingly, if the Qualifier 2 match has no reserve day and if it gets completely washed out due to rain, the team that finished in a higher spot in the league stage points table will qualify for the final. Hence, the Shreyas Iyer & Co. will seal a spot in the final if the match is washed out due to rain.
PBKS finished in the top spot in the points table with 19 points. The Hardik Pandya-led side captured the fourth spot with 16 points. PBKS reached Qualifier 2 after losing their Qualifier 1 clash against RCB by eight wickets.
On the other hand, the MI crushed the Gujarat Titans (GT) by 20 runs in the Eliminator to make it to Qualifier 2. The winner of the match will lock horns with RCB in the final on June 3.
