IPL 2025: "Sanju Samson and Rahul Dravid have been great support.." Riyan Parag reflects on captaining RR

Riyan Parag will lead Rajasthan Royals in the first three games of IPL 2025.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain for the first three matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, Riyan Parag, has said that regular skipper Sanju Samson and head coach Rahul Dravid have helped him immensely during his short stint as the franchise’s captain.

Parag was appointed as RR captain after Sanju Samson failed to fully recover from the finger injury he sustained during India’s last T20I against England in January. Samson played the first match as an impact player, but did not take the field during RR’s bowling.

Parag’s first match as captain did not go as planned as the Royals conceded a mammoth total of 286/6 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a 44-run defeat.

With the bat in hand, Riyan was dismissed on the second ball of his innings after smashing the first ball for a four.

The youngster has now shared his thoughts on the captaincy experience after his first game in charge.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Parag mentioned that Samson and Dravid have been very supportive, and he has faced no communication issues as captain.

Parag said, “Not at all. I think everyone here is a professional. Everyone knows what to do when there is a new leader. Sanju [Samson] Bhai has been really helpful, and Rahul Dravid has also been a great support.“

“So I have not really faced any trouble assembling the team or get someone in the same line of communication.“

Parag has two more opportunities to improve his numbers as the captain of the franchise this season. He will continue to lead the team against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26 and Chennai Super Kings on March 30, both at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.
