IPL 2024: Rohit Sharma to quit MI, owners give ultimatum to Hardik Pandya - Reports
Hardik Pandya replacing Rohit Sharma as MI captain has led to him being booed by franchise fans.
If reports are to be believed, Rohit Sharma is all set to leave the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise after the ongoing IPL 2024. The reason being discussed is his unhappiness at losing the captaincy and how the new captain Hardik Pandya has been leading the side in the ongoing IPL 17.
Mumbai Indians are at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table with 3 losses in 3 matches thus far. MI lost the first match against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, the former home of Hardik Pandya. However, they were humiliated in their second match in Hyderabad, as Sunrisers Hyderabad hammered the highest-ever total in IPL history, scoring 277/3 in 20 overs.
MI gave a good chase, scoring 245/5 but still lost the match by 31 runs. In their last match, which was against Rajasthan Royals at home in Mumbai, MI lost by 6 wickets with 27 balls remaining.
According to a report on News 24, the franchise’s former captain is dissatisfied with how things are going this season. According to sources, Rohit Sharma is upset with Hardik Pandya’s captaincy of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024.
The report further stated that Pandya’s leadership has produced a schism in Mumbai’s dressing room, and their failure to win a single game has exacerbated the situation. The atmosphere in the Mumbai Indians’ changing room is very terrible. The decision has sparked numerous disagreements between the two players. The development was confirmed to News 24 by a franchise player.
Mumbai Indians to replace Hardik Pandya as captain after poor performance as MI captain
If the report is true, then Rohit Sharma will be entering the mega auction in IPL 2025. If he enters the auction, all records may be shattered. All clubs would like to have him as a batter and leader, considering he has won five IPL titles.
The captaincy change has had no positive impact on the Mumbai Indians. The fans have also been dissatisfied since they have not welcomed Hardik Pandya as captain. The all-rounder has been booed in all of Mumbai’s games and has also received Rohit, Rohit chants.
According to sources, the Mumbai Indians’ administration may contemplate changing captains during IPL 2024 season. It is understood that the all-rounder Hardik Pandya would be allowed at least two more games to prove his worth as the team’s captain.
