Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face PBKS in Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2025.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have qualified for Qualifier 1 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This came after they registered a thrilling victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their last league game of the tournament.
RCB completed a brilliant six-wicket win against LSG to seal the second spot in the points table of the IPL 2025. The match between the two teams occurred at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday, May 28.
RCB put LSG to bat first after stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma won the toss. However, the home side made a magical effort with the bat and put the bowlers under pressure even though the start didn’t go in their favour as they lost Matthew Breetzke early.
But skipper Rishabh Pant, who until this match was going through a rough patch, brought his best in the last game. The keeper-batter brought up his second ton in the league as he ended with an unbeaten 118 runs. Along with him, Mitchell Marsh (67) also hit a half-century as LSG ended with 227 for three.
In the chase, RCB started brilliantly with the bat as Phil Salt (30) and Virat Kohli (54) took their team off to a flying start. But the limelight was taken by stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma. The keeper-batter played his best innings in the league, slamming his maiden fifty.
Jitesh Sharma played an unbeaten innings of 85 runs off 33 balls. He attacked the bowlers right from the start and put the opposition under pressure. Mayank Agarwal (41*) also supported him as RCB chased the target with six wickets in hand.
With the win, RCB now moved to second on the points table. They will now face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 1, which will take place at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh on 29th May.
RCB’s record in Qualifier 1 of the IPL:
As RCB have qualified for Qualifier 1, let’s look at their record in this encounter over the years. RCB have qualified for Qualifier 1 only twice before the IPL 2025. However, on both occasions, they have managed to reach the final. They will try to do the same this time, too.
The first time they played Qualifier 1 was in 2011. In that match, they faced Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but they lost. However, they won Qualifier 2 to play the final.
The second occasion came during the IPL 2016. However, that season, they entered directly into the final after defeating Gujarat Lions (now defunct) in Qualifier 1.
