Sanju Samson missed many games in IPL 2025 due to multiple injury concerns.

Sanju Samson is the skipper of Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. However, he has missed a lot of games in the tournament owing to injuries. Riyan Parag has led the team in Samson’s absence in many games.

Notably, Samson played as an Impact Player in RR’s first three games of IPL 2025 due to a finger injury. He was asked to refrain from wicket-keeping by the BCCI medical team. As a result, he did not lead the side in the first three matches. Later, when he was allowed to resume wicket-keeping duties, he took over captaincy duties.

However, the RR skipper sustained another injury during a clash against Delhi Capitals (DC). He was hit by a ball while batting and sustained an abdominal injury later and got ruled out for some games. Hence, Parag took charge of the side once again.

Rajasthan Royals hint at Sanju Samson’s return

IPL 2025 has been suspended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, it is expected to restart soon. Ahead of resumption of the tournament, RR hinted at Samson’s return in the league. On Monday, May 12, RR shared a photo of Samson training in nets on their official X account.

Meanwhile, Samson has played seven games for RR out of 12 in the ongoing tournament. He has mustered 224 runs at a strike rate of 143.58. He has scored one half-century – a 66-run knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the RR’s first game. He also scored 41 against Gujarat Titans (GT) and 38 against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Samson’s return will not change RR’s fortunes in IPL 2025 as they are already out of the playoffs’ race. The IPL 2008 champions have lost nine games out of 12 and won three matches. With six points, they take the ninth spot in the points table.

They will face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and PBKS in their last two games this season. CSK and SRH are the other two teams out of the playoffs’ race.
