Sanju Samson will lead Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025.
On Monday, March 17, Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson joined the squad for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
The inaugural winners of the tournament will start their IPL 2025 campaign on Sunday, March 23, in an afternoon game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
Samson was undergoing rehab at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after suffering a finger injury during the fifth T20I against England in Mumbai earlier this year.
The 30-year-old sustained the blow while batting in the first innings and was unable to keep wickets in the second innings, making way for substitute Dhruv Jurel.

Samson’s return is a massive boost for RR; however, it is not confirmed if the captain will be able to take up the wicket-keeping duties straight away after recovering from the injury.
In case of his unavailability, Jurel would be the preferred choice for the role. Having made his international debut in 2024, Jurel has already represented India in eight matches across formats.
Earlier, while speaking to AB de Villiers on YouTube, Samson had confirmed that he would be looking to share the wicket-keeping role with Jurel, given the latter is competing for the spot in the test team.
Samson said in December, “I have not said this on air. As I said before, we feel for the players. I think we feel Dhruv Jurel, where he is at his career, he is a test wicket-keeper. He also needs to wear the gloves in the IPL at some point.“
“That was discussed; we will be sharing gloves; we both will be sharing gloves. I have not captained much as a fielder, but I told him honestly ‘Dhruv, I totally understand from where you come from and what I think about you as a leader, you should keep in some games.“
