IPL 2025: Sanju Samson ruled out of RR's next match against RCB; Riyan Parag to lead RR

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have been dealt with another massive blow as their skipper Sanju Samson will not be available for their next match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The RCB vs RR will take place at theM Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, April 24. Riyan Parag will lead the side in Samson’s absence.
The RR opener was also not part of the side’s last game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Parag led the side in his absence. Youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi replaced Samson as opener in the match, partnering with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Notably, Samson did not lead the side in the first three games as he was still recovering from a finger injury. He was not allowed to keep the wickets. As a result, he only played as an Impact Player in RR’s first three games of the season and Parag led the side.
However, the wicket-keeper batter now suffered another injury, which has ruled him out of two matches straight. He suffered the injury in a clash against Delhi Capitals.
Sanju Samson is undergoing recovery in Jaipur
RR franchise has informed in an official statement that Samson will not travel to Bengaluru for their upcoming clash against RCB. He will stay in Jaipur at the team’s home base for the recovery process. The RR medical staff is looking after his injury and the rehabilitation process.
“Samson is currently undergoing recovery and will remain at the team’s home base (Jaipur) with select RR medical staff. As part of his ongoing rehab process, he will not be travelling to Bangalore for the upcoming match against RCB,” the franchise informed in an official statement.
Meanwhile, Samson showed a decent form across first seven games for RR. He slammed 224 runs at an average of 37.33 and a strike rate of 143.58. He also scored one half-century. Parag has mustered 212 runs across eight games with a top knock of an unbeaten 43. He has shown a powerful batting strike rate of 148.25.
Samson’s replacement Suryavanshi registered a 85-run stand with Jaiswal for the first wicket before getting out for 34 on his IPL debut game against LSG. However, RR lost the match by two runs in the end. Meanwhile, the 2008 champions have witnessed a dismal run in IPL 2025. They have won just two games out of eight and lost six. RR currently take the eighth spot in the points table with four points.
