IPL 2025: [Watch] Shubman Gill risks getting punished after venting out at umpire for howler in GT vs SRH clash

Shubman Gill got out for 76 runs in match 51 of IPL 2025.
Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are locking horns in match No. 51 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The encounter is underway at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 2. During the game, GT skipper Shubman Gill was involved in a verbal spat with the third umpire.
Earlier, SRH skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bowl first. The hosts GT gave a wonderful performance with the bat. The home team piled up a gigantic total of 224/6 in the first innings. Openers Sai Sudharsan and Gill etched an opening stand of 87 runs with the latter hitting a half-century.
Coming in at No. 3, Jos Buttler also slammed a fifty for the home team. Jaydev Unadkat was the most successful bowler for SRH with a three-wicket haul. Cummins also picked one wicket as Sunrisers largely failed to attack GT’s batting unit.

Notably, GT opener Gill’s wicket became a highlight of the game. He faced an unlucky run-out in the 13th over of the first innings. SRH fielder Harshal Patel made a quick throw to wicket-keeper Heinrich Klaasen. Gill was too short from the crease. However, it was not clear if Klaasen dislodged the bails with his gloves first or the ball directly hit the stumps.
The on-field umpires took the third umpire’s referral for the run-out. Third umpire Michael Gough went through the replays closely and eventually adjudged Gill as out. Although the GT skipper left the field, he was not satisfied with the decision. He had a verbal fight with the fourth umpire outside the boundary line as soon as he returned back to the dugout. The video of Gill’s altercation with the umpire went viral on social media.

Following his actions, Gill has put himself at risk of being fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). By showing dissent at umpires for the run-out decision, Gill now faces clause 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct.
