Tilak Varma has scored two match-winning half centuries for MI in IPL 2025.
Mumbai Indians (MI) are set to clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Wednesday, April 23, in the 41st match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The MI vs SRH game will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Ahead of the encounter, MI batter Tilak Varma has revealed his personal wish for the tournament.
Notably, Varma has shown a marvellous form in IPL 2025. At the start, he was retired out by the team during a clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for his slow batting approach. However, he later arrived with quickfire half-centuries in the next two games and has been a commendable batter for the side in IPL 2025. The left-handed batter is currently the second-highest run-getter for the side.
Tilak Varma reveals his wish for MI in IPL 2025
During a conversation on “Gen Bold” show on JioHotstar, Varma revealed his core wish for IPL 2025. He wants his team to win another title as he has never been part of the winning team. He joined the team in the 2022 season. Notably, MI won their last title in IPL 2020.
“I always tell Rohit bhai and Surya bhai that I haven’t had that winning feeling yet. I joined in 2022, but we haven’t won the trophy since then. Personally, the last three seasons have gone well for me, but the team hasn’t had the results we wanted. This year, we are confident and ready to give it our all—heart and soul,” the 22-year-old said.
Interestingly, Varma joined the team under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in the 2022 season when Hardik Pandya was not part of the side. However, Pandya rejoined the team in the 2024 season and replaced Sharma as the new MI skipper. Speaking about his relationship with the new MI skipper, he said that Pandya backs players and communicates openly about issues.
“I have a very good relationship with Hardik bhai. I made my T20 debut and received my cap from him. That was a very special experience. We played together last year as well. He always backs players and communicates openly if something goes wrong. Our relationship is very good, and I’m hopeful we’ll continue to do well this year. We have a very good relationship both on and off the field,” said Varma, who has played 46 games for MI so far.
Meanwhile, Varma has slammed 231 runs across eight matches in IPL 2025. After Yadav, he has scored the most runs for the side. He has also shattered two half-centuries this season. He slammed crucial knocks of 21*, 59, and 56 in his last three encounters.
The five-time champions have witnessed a roller-coaster form in IPL 2025. They lost four games out of five at the start. However, they made a marvellous comeback in the previous three games by clinching three consecutive victories. Against SRH, they will eye their fifth victory of the season. Notably, MI crushed SRH by four wickets in their previous encounter this season.
