IPL 2025: Vaibhav Suryavanshi becomes youngest debutant ever in the IPL; Makes debut at the age of 14 years and 23 days

Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi, on Saturday, April 19, became the youngest player to make debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The left-handed batsman made his debut during the clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Suryavanshi is 14 years and 23 days old.
He replaced Sanju Samson as opener in the match and took the crease in the second innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Notably, RR skipper Samson is not part of RR vs LSG clash due to an abdominal injury. Riyan Parag is the stand-in skipper for the side in his absence.

Notably, the young RR batter slammed a six on his very first ball he faced in the IPL. He hit Shardul Thakur in the first over for a maximum to script his stunning entry to the IPL. He has leapfrogged Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru) Prayas Ray Barman for the record; who made his debut at the age of 16 years and 157 days in IPL 2019 in a clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
RR bought Suryavanshi for a whopping price of INR 1.10 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction. He had a base price of INR 30 lakhs.

Meanwhile, RR are chasing a 181-run target in the match. Earlier, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bat first. Opener Aiden Markram and middle-order batter Ayush Badoni slammed half-centuries for LSG in the match. Abdul Samad also added unbeaten 30 runs towards the end to power RR to 180/5.
RR pacers Jofra Archer, Sandeep Sharma, and Tushar Deshpande picked one wicket each in the first innings. Wanindu Hasaranga captured two wickets. Both Suryavanshi and Jaiswal have powered RR to a quickfire start in the match, adding 55 runs in the powerplay overs.
