Mumbai Indians (MI) are locking horns with Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Eliminator clash of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Friday, May 30. The encounter is currently underway at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. Notably, key pacer Deepak Chahar is not part of MI’s playing XI against GT in the clash. MI have replaced him with England pacer Richard Gleeson, who makes his IPL debut in the match.
The Hardik Pandya & Co. also made two more changes in the playing XI. Jonny Bairstow has replaced opener Ryan Rickelton. The latter has returned for national duties and Bairstow is his replacement. MI have also added Raj Bawa to their playing XI.
Why is Deepak Chahar not included in MI playing XI against GT?
Chahar has been ruled out of the GT vs MI Eliminator match due to a hamstring injury. Notably, the right-arm pacer sustained an injury while bowling in their last match against Punjab Kings (PBKS). He also left the field midway during the encounter and later returned to bowling.
Chahar was part of MI’s all 14 games during the league stage. He scalped 11 wickets at an average of 34.18 and an economy of 9.17. Meanwhile, the Shubman Gill-led side will be short of their key batter Jos Buttler.
He has returned to England for national duty. GT have inducted Kusal Mendis as Buttler’s replacement. Washington Sundar has replaced Arshad Khan in the playing XI.
The winner of the Eliminator will clash with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Qualifier 2 match on June 1. The encounter will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Shreyas Iyer-led PBKS faced a humiliating loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by eight wickets in Qualifier 1. With that, RCB booked their berth in the IPL 2025 final.
