Ireland defeated India for the first time in a T20I game.
Ireland scripted history by crushing India in the 1st T20I of the ongoing IRE vs IND series. The encounter took place at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast, in which India won the toss and chose to field first.
Shreyas Iyer captained the T20I team for the first time; however, he faced a crushing defeat. Notably, before this match, India had never lost a T20I game against Ireland, having won all eight clashes.
Ireland, who are known for their supremacy at home, shocked India with brilliant teamwork with both bat and ball. After losing openers cheaply, captain Lorcan Tucker hammered a half-century for the hosts, while Gareth Delany scored a crucial 49 runs, taking the scoreboard to 182/9.
Harshit Rana clinched a three-wicket haul, while Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel grabbed two scalps each. India completely failed to chase down the target and was bowled out for just 148 runs.
Except for Abhishek, no Indian batters could come up with a brilliant show. India suffered one of their worst batting collapses, losing wickets like a house of cards. With the victory, Ireland lead the two-match series 1-0.
