"Prasidh Krishna's economy rate was equal to that of Jasprit Bumrah's in T20s"- Irfan Pathan lashes out at India pacer for his poor show in the Headingley test

Prasidh Krishna went for runs at an economy over 6 rpo in both innings in Leeds test.
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has blasted Prasidh Krishna for giving up too many runs in the opening test of the five-match series against England. He pointed out that the Karnataka seamer’s economic rate was comparable to that of Jasprit Bumrah in Twenty20 cricket.
On Tuesday, June 24, England defeated India by five wickets in the first test match played at Headingley in Leeds. In each of the hosts’ innings, Krishna gave up more than six runs per over despite taking five wickets.
Pathan was questioned about Krishna taking two wickets in England’s second innings while reviewing the match on Sony Sports. The former India all-rounder praised the lanky seamer for changing his length, but pointed out that his economy was comparable to Bumrah’s in T20 cricket.
“He changed his length. He was hit for a four off the first ball, a short ball, an absolute loosener. He woke up after that and changed his length. He bowled a length where you couldn’t play the drive, and he also got to swing with that. The swing and late movement made him effective,” Pathan said on Sony Sports.
“Just look at his economy combining both the innings. He is at No. 2 in terms of the worst economy for a fast bowler in history. Bumrah has this economy in T20s, nearly 6.50. So he will have to concentrate on his economy. He has good height and pace. He will have to learn as soon as possible how to bowl a consistent area according to the batter,” he added.
In England’s opening innings, Prasidh Krishna took three wickets at an economy rate of 6.40, giving up 128 runs in 20 overs. In the second innings, he had an economy of 6.10 per over while recording figures of 2/92 in 15 overs.
Saba Karim says Prasidh Krishna leaked lots of runs
In the same conversation, former India wicket-keeper batter Saba Karim agreed with Irfan Pathan, pointing out that Prasidh Krishna frequently makes mistakes with line and length.
“He is leaking a lot of runs. It won’t work out like that. The performance was much better in the second innings. He bowled well in different, different spells. As Irfan said, he changed his length and benefited because of that. However, he is still giving too much width or bowling too short at times,” he said.
Saba Karim also added that former India bowling coach Bharat Arun had also expressed concern over Krishna’s inability to keep the run flow in check.
“So he needs to work hard on that. I was speaking to Bharat Arun as well, and Arun has worked with him, and that’s an area of concern for Prasidh Krishna, and he will have to learn very quickly,” Saba observed.
In four test matches, Prasidh Krishna has taken 13 wickets. He would like to control his career economy rate, which is 5.07.
