Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan recalled an incident which happened in Peshawar.

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has made a shocking revelation about one of the most brutal experiences while playing in Pakistan. Irfan Pathan revealed that he was hit by nails under his eyes that were thrown by a fan sitting in the stands at Peshawar stadium. Pathan said that the incident happened when he was fielding at the boundary line in an ODI game in Peshawar. Pathan recalled the incident after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) complained about the Ahmedabad crowd behavior.

Irfan Pathan recalls Peshawar incident

During his commentary in India vs Bangladesh game in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Irfan Pathan made a shocking revelation and said, “We were playing a game in Peshawar when a fan suddenly threw an iron nail at me, which struck under my eye.” Pathan was talking about PCB’s complaint against Ahmedabad crowd, who were also a bit hostile towards Pakistan team last Saturday. Pakistan were playing against the tournament hosts, India, and lost badly by 7 wickets.

PCB lodged a formal complaint, but ICC took no action, stating that the code of conduct applies to individuals and not to any group. PCB couldn’t provide the details of any incident they were complaining about. Irfan Pathan later revealed that they never made it an issue and enjoyed the hospitality they got on the 2006 tour in Pakistan. The first ODI between India and Pakistan was halted for a bit due to the same issue.

'We never made an issue,' says Irfan Pathan

Slamming PCB’s approach, Irfan Pathan said, “We never made an issue out of that and always appreciated their hospitality. Pakistan should stop making issues about crowd behavior in India.” Irfan’s teammate, Aakash Chopra, also jumped in with a tweet supporting Irfan’s statement. Aakash said he remembers the play being interrupted due to fan trouble, but only today did he get to know the real reason.

Irfan also blamed Pakistan Cricket Board for spreading negativity and a false narrative for their benefit. PCB’s clash with BCCI has been going on for a long time. It all started with BCCI not sending their team for Asia Cup 2023 event to Pakistan due to security reasons and playing most of their games in Sri Lanka. India defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets in Ahmedabad to continue their dominance in the World Cup.
