India are preparing for their three-match ODI series against West Indies, with the first game set to be played in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27. The series will be followed by ODIs in Guwahati and New Chandigarh.
The series is an important part of India‘s preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Shubman Gill will lead the side, while experienced batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are back in the ODI squad after their last appearance for India in July.
India’s batting combination is also a big talking point ahead of the series. With Rohit, Gill, Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul and Ruturaj Gaikwad all in the squad, the team management has several options to choose from.

India’s first training session ahead of the series has now added another question. Jaiswal and Gill were seen batting together, while Rohit Sharma was spotted batting alongside KL Rahul in the nets.
This has raised the possibility that Rohit could move down the order if Jaiswal and Gill are used as the opening pair.
If that happens, Rohit could potentially bat at No. 4, with Virat Kohli also expected to occupy a key position in the top order.
For now, though, there has been no official confirmation from the Indian team regarding Rohit’s batting position.

During India’s practice session, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill were seen batting together. This has led to speculation that the two could open the innings against West Indies.
Rohit has been one of India’s regular ODI openers for several years, but the latest net session has created a different possibility for the series opener.
It is still not clear if India will go with the same combination in the first ODI. The playing XI will give a better idea of where each batter is set to come in.
