Rinku Singh scored 168 runs in the IPL 2024 season while playing for KKR.

After winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), star batter Rinku Singh has opened up about his salary in the IPL. In the IPL 2024 edition, the star finisher Rinku played 14 games and managed to score only 168 runs at a strike rate of 148.67.

In the IPL 2018 season, the left-handed batter was acquired by the Kolkata franchise for INR 80 lakhs. Even though he couldn’t perform well with the bat, KKR showed faith in him and retained him for the 2019 edition as well. Later at the mega-auction in 2022, the pinch-hitter was bought by the franchise for Rs 55 lakhs.

The middle-order batter had a dream run in the IPL 2023 season, where he earned the reputation of finishing games like legendary cricketer MS Dhoni. In that season, Rinku hammered 474 runs in 14 matches at a superb average of 59.25. He made it to the headlines even more when he smashed five sixes off Yash Dayal’s over to cross the finishing line.

After stunning display in IPL 2023 edition with the bat, Rinku also earned his maiden India call-up in white-ball cricket, and since then he has been consistently performing well for the national side and the Kolkata franchise in the IPL.

The 27-year-old Rinku was named in BCCI’s annual contract in 2024, which makes him eligible for Rs 1 crore per year.

50-55 lakhs is a lot: Rinku Singh

Even after earning so much money, the 27-year-old Rinku was happy to earn 50–55 lakhs in the IPL 2024 while representing KKR. In a latest interview with Danik Jagran before departing for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Rinku said that when he started his cricketing journey, he didn’t imagine he would earn this much money.

“Even 50-55 lakhs is a lot. When I started, I had not even thought that I would earn so much. At that time, I was a kid and if I got even 10-5 rupees, I thought I would get it somehow. Now I am getting 55 lakh rupees, so this is a lot, I should be happy with whatever God gives me. This is my thinking. I don’t think at all that I should have got this much money or that much. I am very happy even with 55 lakh rupees. When I didn’t have this, I realized the value of money,” Rinku Singh told Dainik Jagaran in an interview.

When he was asked about how he stays grounded, Rinku replied that it is very important to stay grounded and humble.

“If I tell you the truth today, then all this is an illusion. You did not bring anything with you, nor will you take anything with you. You never know when time will change. I would like to say that you have to go back the same way you came. Stay grounded, what else,” Rinku said.

Rinku will now travel alongside India squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 as reserve and will make it to the main squad only if a batter gets injured in between the tournament.
