Rohit Sharma has struggled with his performance in ODIs this year.

Veteran Indian batter Rohit Sharma has failed to come up with good performances in the ongoing ODI series against England. The right-handed batsman got out for just 11 runs off 21 deliveries in the opening game at Edgbaston on July 14.

It was expected that Rohit would come up better show in 2nd game in Cardiff on July 16. However, disappointment continued as he struggled yet again and scored 26 runs off 47 deliveries.

Rohit is only active in the 50-over format, having announced his retirement from T20Is in 2024 and Tests in 2025. The senior batter has expressed his desire to play the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe next year. However, he has failed to make any significant impact with his performances since the start of this year.

Across eight ODI matches played so far in 2026, the Indian opener has scored 241 runs at a average of 30.12, including just one half-century. The ENG vs IND 3rd ODI is set to take place on July 19 at The Lords’, in which Rohit would aim for a big comeback. However, some reports have claimed that it could be his last game in international cricket.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors have informed Rohit that they are not seeing him in plans for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. They have also told him that ENG vs IND third ODI would be his last in Indian colours.

The report further claimed that Rohit wants to continue, especially after working on his fitness. He also spoke to a few BCCI officials regarding the matter, as he was not happy with the decision.

“Selectors have informed Rohit he is not in their scheme of things post the England tour and they are moving on from him after this series,” an BCCI source informed The Indian Express. “Though he wanted to continue, especially after working on his fitness. The selectors have left the ball in Sharma’s court to decide his future,” he further added.
