Rohit Sharma retired hurt due to a right hamstring injury in MI vs RCB clash of IPL 2026.

Mumbai Indians (MI) find themselves facing fresh uncertainty ahead of their next Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 fixture, with concerns emerging around one of their most experienced players. The timing could not be worse for a side still searching for consistency this season.

The concern stems from MI‘s recent clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where Rohit Sharma saw his innings cut short abruptly. After looking in good touch early in the chase, the veteran opener showed visible discomfort while running between the wickets before eventually walking off the field. He had to retire hurt after scoring 19 off 13 balls.

Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury during the match, with the physio attending him on the field and strapping the affected area. The former India captain later decided not to continue. The nature of the injury remains unclear, but he surely would be undergoing scans to determine the severity.

Adding to the uncertainty, some unverified reports have suggested that Rohit Sharma is now doubtful for at least one and a half to two weeks, but the franchise has not officially confirmed anything yet. No formal updates or statements have been issued on opener’s condition from MI as of yet.

It could not be worse for the MI. After losing three games so far in the season, not having Rohit at the top of the lineup is going to make things worse for their batting order. He plays an important role in the powerplay and support in chases.

Hamstring injuries are always difficult in a short tournament like IPL, which has short gaps between each match. Therefore, most teams do not want to rush injured players back into the lineup because of the potential long-term repercussions. It is possible that even MI might not rush Sharma back into action.

As of today, the status of Rohit for the next match being played by the Mumbai Indians against Punjab Kings on April 16 is likely to change depending on the results of the medical evaluations, as well as any progress made in his recovery.
