Ishan Kishan is leading Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu Invitational Cricket Tournament 2024.

India wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan started his domestic season on a resounding note as he blasted an 86-ball century in Jharkhand’s opening match of the ongoing Buchi Babu Invitational Cricket Tournament 2024.

The Buchi Babu tournament got underway on Thursday in Tamil Nadu. It is being played in a four-day format with the red ball, and it will give good match practice for the Indian players heading into the Duleep Trophy and then the Ranji Trophy.

Kishan was initially not mentioned in Jharkhand’s squad for this tournament but once he confirmed his availability, not only he was added to the squad but the 26-year-old was named the captain of the side.

Ishan Kishan has not played first-class cricket since July 2023

On his return to red-ball cricket on Friday, Kishan smashed a quickfire century against Madhya Pradesh. His knock featured nine sixes and he reached his century with two consecutive sixes.

Kishan attained the three-figure landmark with a sensational one-handed hit to spinner Adheer Pratap Singh. Off-spinner Adheer tossed the ball well outside the off-stump and Kishan danced down the track.

He couldn’t get to the pitch of the ball perfectly, yet the left-hander went through his shot and connected it sweetly. In doing so, his right hand came off the handle. However, there was enough power in his stroke that the ball still sailed over the boundary for a maximum. Kishan celebrated his milestone subduedly.

Jharkhand had bowled Madhya Pradesh out for 225. However, Jharkhand also struggled early on. Kishan came in at number six and rocked his way to an 86-ball century, hitting nine jaw-dropping sixes and helping his side take a first innings lead.

With the Buchi Babu tournament and the following Duleep Trophy, Kishan would be hoping to be picked in India’s squads for the upcoming season. He was dropped from the BCCI’s central contracts earlier this year for not playing Ranji Trophy even when asked to.
