India's tour of West Indies 2023
Ishan Kishan credits captain Rohit Sharma for his success in WI tests

Wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan scored 52 runs off 34 balls on day 4 of the second test.
India had a different set of plans for day 4 at the Queens Park Oval test. Though the test ended in a draw due to the persistent rain on the final day, India created an outside chance of a win and whitewashed the West Indies.
Captain Rohit Sharma and wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan smashed half-centuries to put up a huge 365-run target in front of Windies in the second test. Playing his first-ever test series for India, Ishan Kishan credited captain Rohit Sharma for his success. Ishan Kishan impressed everyone with his glovework as well as with the bat. Kishan and Rohit also play together for Mumbai Indians.
'Rohit allowed me to play with freedom'
Ishan Kishan said, “Rohit is a very experienced captain. He tries to keep everyone in that comfort zone. When I was going to bat, he just told me ‘You play your natural game, play according to the plan, and don’t listen to anyone else’. It is a massive thing to a youngster that a captain is backing you and it motivates you to do well”. India batted for 24 overs in the second innings and scored 182 runs. Rohit and his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal added 98 runs for the first wicket in 11.5 overs.
Wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan was promoted in the batting order and came in at number 4 over Virat Kohli. Kishan scored 52 runs in 34 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes in the innings. This strategy was termed as a copy of England’s ‘Bazball’ tactic but Kishan himself made that clear that it will not be an easy job to bat aggressively in every single time and the teams should use it as and when needed. India won the two-match test series by 1-0 after the second test ended in a draw.
