After securing a substantial first innings lead, East Zone batters struggled in the second innings until skipper Ishan Kishan came to bat on Day 4 of the ongoing Duleep Trophy final. The double centurion scored 80 off 98 balls in this innings.
However, his attempt to maintain momentum ended when he was dismissed just a few runs short of a second century. Kishan’s dismissal drew everyone’s attention because he had already displayed tremendous control and excellent composure in the first innings.
On the third ball of the 34th over, he made room and tried to smash a slower delivery. However, unable to accurately judge the speed of the ball, he swung his bat too early; the ball struck the bottom part (toe) of the bat and then hit the leading edge.
Devdutt Padikkal completed the catch to dismiss Kishan short of what could be another brilliant century.
