Ishan Kishan, as per many reports, was all set to replace Rishabh Pant in the Indian squad for the fifth test against England.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has found itself in the middle of a massive headache amid the ongoing fourth test between England and India. This is because the injury to Rishabh Pant has surely put the team on the back foot in the ongoing game, especially with the series on the line.
Indian test vice-captain Rishabh Pant fractured his toe after he was hit while batting against Chris Woakes in the ongoing Manchester test. He looked in a lot of pain and was then carried off the field on a cart before being taken for the scans.
Despite battling the fractured toe, the keeper-batter showed great courage and walked out to bat in the first innings on day two. He was on 37 when he was injured and then gave it all for the nation, walking out to bat when the team was under pressure.
While he gave his everything despite the injury, it’s fair to say that he won’t be there for the next game. Rishabh Pant is all set to be ruled out of the game as things don’t look great. This means that the BCCI will be naming the replacement soon.
As per a report in the Times of India, it is learned that the BCCI was all set to add Ishan Kishan to the squad. They contacted the keeper-batter, but in a major development, it was reported that Kishan is also injured and he won’t be there.
Selectors did reach out to Ishan – BCCI source

Speaking about the same, a source close to the developments confirmed that Kishan is battling ankle injury after he fell from a scooter. He said:
“Ishan has suffered an ankle injury and has ten stitches on his left foot after he fell from a scooty,” a source tracking the development told TOI. “Selectors did reach out to Ishan, but only on Thursday. His stitches have been removed and he currently has a plaster on his left ankle,” the report further added.
The replacement for Rishabh Pant will be more of a backup for Dhruv Jurel. The latter will be keeping the wickets for India in the Manchester test, and then will be the first-choice keeper in the next test at the Oval as well. He performed wicket-keeping duties in the last game as well after Pant faced a finger injury.
