Ishan Kishan made his Test debut for India against West Indies in July 2023.
From getting stripped from the central contract to becoming one of India‘s match-winners in T20Is, Ishan Kishan has come a long way in the last couple of years. The left-hander is among the first-choice players in the T20I setup.
Ishan Kishan is also slowly making his presence felt in the ODI setup. However, the Test format is something he is yet to ace. The left-hander made his Test debut for India in 2023 and played two matches.
But he didn’t get many chances in the longest format. However, the no. 1-ranked T20I batter has come back into the Test plans. India are currently hosting West Indies for 8 white-ball matches, and the five-match T20I series will begin on Tuesday.
After this home assignment, India are all set to fly to New Zealand for a multi-format series. These two teams will face each other in five T20Is, two tests, and five ODIs during that tour.

The Indian selection committee led by Pragyan Ohja is all set to announce the Indian squad for ODIs, Tests, T20Is, and the India A squad. The selection is likely to be done within the next 48 hours.
The challenge will be to manage the workload of all the players who are regular in Tests and also give them enough preparation ahead of the series. Ishan had a great season in the Duleep Trophy, which has strengthened his chances in the longest format.
He led East Zone to the title, beating South Zone, and scored a terrific 270 off 334 in the first innings. He finished as the leading scorer with 409 runs in the tournament.
As per a report from Times of India, he has entered into the discussion for a Test spot with his recent form. However, the clash of India’s ODI assignment and India’s A schedule might not allow him to play India’s A game in New Zealand.
The schedule of India A and the five-match series against New Zealand are overlapping. Hence, Dhurv Jurel and Kumar Kushagra can don the gloves during the India A game in New Zealand. India A and New Zealand A are scheduled to play three unofficial Tests, starting on October 24 at Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln.
This will give an ideal platform to Test regulars to get used to the conditions in New Zealand. The likes of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, and Devdutt Padikkal are expected to play at least one of the India A games.
