Ishan Kishan will replace Kyle Verreynne in Nottinghamshire squad.
India’s out of favour wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan will be playing for England’s domestic team Nottinghamshire in the County Championship 2025. The wicket-keeper batter has signed a short-term deal with the county team for two forthcoming matches.
Kishan will represent the side in the matches against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge and against Somerset in Taunton. The left-handed batsman will replace South Africa wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne in the Nottinghamshire squad.
Verreynne will be busy with the national duty for South Africa‘s forthcoming test series against Zimbabwe starting on June 28. Notably, this will be the first-ever stint for Kishan in county cricket.
Excited to get my first taste of playing county cricket in England – Ishan Kishan
After signing the deal with Nottinghamshire, Kishan said that he is excited for the opportunity to play county cricket in England and looks forward to learn new skills.
“I’m feeling very excited to get my first taste of playing county cricket in England, and it will be a great chance to showcase my skills,” he said in an official statement released by Nottinghamshire team.
“I want to make sure I am the best cricketer I can be, and playing in English conditions will really help me to learn new skills. Trent Bridge is such a famous ground that is well-known in India and around the world, and I am really excited that I will be playing there,” he further added.
Notably, two other Indian players have also signed deals in County Championship 2025. Tilak Varma has signed a short-term deal with Hampshire, while Ruturaj Gaikwad will join Yorkshire for the second half of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Kishan has played only two tests for India so far. However, he has good experience in the white-ball formats, playing 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is. He has played 58 First-Class (FC) matches for Jharkhand in India’s domestic circuit, scoring 3447 runs in 98 innings with eight centuries and 17 half-centuries.
