Andre Russell smashed 41 runs in the match 16 of IPL 2024 between DC and KKR.
On a record-breaking night when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batters unleashed their beast mode against the Delhi Capitals (DC), veteran DC pacer Ishant Sharma produced a stunning yorker that dismantled hard-hitter Andre Russell’s stumps in the match 16 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 in Vizag on April 2.
Kolkata smashed 264 runs with five wickets in hand at the end of the 19th over and were aiming to break the record for highest score by any IPL team, which was achieved by Sunrisers Hyderabad (277) against Mumbai Indians earlier in the season.
However, in the 20th over of the KKR’s innings, with 14 runs needed off the last over to break SRH’s record of the highest score in the IPL, Capitals’ pacer Ishant nailed a stunning toe-crushing yorker to rattle well-set Andre Russell’s stumps on the very first delivery of the over. Russell also fell down while the ball dismantled the stumps.
The KKR hard-hitter batter Russell was sent back after he smashed 41 runs off 19 balls, and his dismissal ensured DC safeguarded SRH’s record for the highest total by a team in IPL history till now. Russell also praised Ishant’s stunning delivery while returning back to the KKR dugout.
Earlier in the innings, DC bowling line-up got assaulted by KKR opener Sunil Narine, and youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who laid the platform for KKR’s highest-ever score in the IPL history. In the death overs, Russell and left-handed batter Rinku Singh went bonkers as KKR ended their innings at 272/7.
