Jacob Bethell to become youngest England captain as ECB announces squad for Ireland T20Is

England will tour Ireland for three T20Is from September 17 to 21.
The England Cricket Team have revealed their squad for their T20I tour of Ireland next month. The 2022 ICC T20 World Cup winners will tour Ireland for a three-match series, scheduled to be played from September 17 to 21.
The three T20I games are scheduled to take place on September 17, 19, and 21. The venue of all three encounters is The Village, Dublin. England’s white-ball skipper Harry Brook has been rested for the series.
In his absence, all-rounder Jacob Bethell will lead the team against Ireland, captaining the side for the first time. Ahead of the Ireland T20I series, England will host South Africa for an ODI series and a T20I series from September 2 to 14.
England’s T20I squad against Ireland

England have added many youngsters to their squad. However, a few experienced members like Jos Buttler, Liam Dawson, Adil Rashid, and Phil Salt are part of the side. Right-arm pacer Sonny Baker has earned his maiden call-up to the T20I side for the series.
Left-arm orthodox spinner Tom Hartley is also likely to make his T20I debut against Ireland. Moreover, 21-year-old Bethell is set to become the youngest England captain, breaking the record of Monty Bowden.

Notably, England will play their first-ever bilateral T20I series against Ireland. Earlier, both sides clashed in two T20I games during the ICC T20 World Cup tournaments in 2010 and 2022. Out of those, Ireland won one encounter, while the other ended with no result.
Meanwhile, England’s last T20I campaign was against the West Indies in June. Playing at home, England outplayed the Caribbean side to complete a whitewash in the series.
Ireland also clashed with the West Indies in a T20I series at home in June. During the three-match series, the first two games were abandoned due to rain. West Indies won the third encounter by 62 runs to win the series 1-0.
