Manchester Originals have signed James Anderson for the fifth edition of The Hundred 2025. The eight-team tournament is all set to begin in August this year.
Eight teams are part of The Hundred 2025, namely – London Spirit, Oval Invincibles, Manchester Originals, Southern Brave, Northern Superchargers, Welsh Fire, Birmingham Phoenix, and Trent Rockets.
The Hundred 2025 will commence on August 5, with the first encounter set to take place between the London Spirit and the Oval Invincibles at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. The final will take place on August 31 at the same venue. Oval Invincibles are the defending champions of The Hundred. They won the title in the last season by defeating Southern Brave in the final by 17 runs.

Anderson will play for Manchester Originals in the tournament. The former England pacer announced his retirement from international cricket in 2024. Notably, Anderson was not selected in the player draft for The Hundred 2025 earlier in March.
Anderson had forwarded his name in the draft without a reserve price. However, he missed out on 26 available domestic spots across the eight franchises. Anderson also played for Lancashire in the T20 Blast, where he took 14 wickets at an economy rate of under 7.75 runs per over.
Notably, Anderson only played test cricket for England during the latter part of his career. With 188 tests, he retired as the second-most capped player in tests. The right-arm pacer also played 194 ODIs during his career. However, Anderson represented England in just 19 T20Is. He played his last T20I match for England in November 2009.
Meanwhile, Manchester Originals gave a dismal performance in the last edition. They finished in the seventh spot in the points table with two points. Out of eight games, they won just one match and lost seven encounters. They were led by Phil Salt after regular skipper Jos Buttler was ruled out.
