England wicket-keeper batter Jamie Smith hammered a sensational knock of unbeaten 184 runs in the first innings of the ongoing second test. England Cricket Team and Indian Cricket Team are locking horns with each other in the second test of the five-match series at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Jamie Smith also recorded the third fastest century for England in tests, reaching the three-figure mark in just 80 deliveries. During his innings, the right-handed batsman hammered 21 fours and four sixes. He also etched a crucial 303-run stand with Harry Brook for the sixth wicket.
Notably, England were struggling at 84/5 at one moment. However, Smith and Harry Brook (158) slammed incredible centuries to help the hosts recover from an early batting collapse. England piled up 407/10 in the first innings, allowing India to take a lead of 180 runs.
Jamie Smith registers highest test score by an England wicket-keeper
With his unbeaten 184 runs, Smith scripted the record for the highest score by an England wicket-keeper in test cricket. He broke former cricketer Alec Stewart’s record of 173 runs against New Zealand in 1997. The third spot on the list is held by Jonny Bairstow, who scored unbeaten 167-run knock against Sri Lanka in 2016.

Smith slammed his second century in tests. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj hunted a five-wicket haul in the first innings, clinching six wickets for 70 runs during his spell. Akash Deep captured the rest four wickets, while other bowlers went wicketless.
The visitors earned a lead of 180 runs after the end of the first innings. Earlier, Shubman Gill (269) scored a double century to power India to a gigantic total of 587/10 in the first innings. In the second innings, India were 64/1 at stumps on day three.
