Japan squad for the historic T20I against India against announced

India vs Japan T20I will be held at Sano International Cricket Ground on September 22.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Japan Cricket Association (JCA) made a historic announcement on September 4. The two cricket boards confirmed a T20I match to be played on September 22 at the Sano International Cricket Ground in Tochigi Prefecture.

This match is being played to celebrate the ties between the two countries on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of India-Japan diplomatic relations. This match is titled under the Suzuki Cup banner, which will be the maiden cricket match between two countries.

Notably, India are the current T20I champions and ranked no. 1 in the rankings. On the other hand, Japan are an associate nation team, ranked 41st in the T20I rankings. This match will also help India get used to the conditions ahead of the Asian Games 2026.

Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming will lead Japan against India in Suzuki Cup on September 22

Veteran batter Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming has been announced the captain of the Japan team, which will take on Team India on September 22. The JCA has announced a 15-member squad, featuring some exciting names at this level.

Captain Fleming is Japan’s highest scorer in this format. He has 55 T20Is and has scored 1871 runs at 38.18 and a strike rate of 139.41 with two centuries and 12 half-centuries. Fleming is the third-fastest ever to reach 1000 T20I runs.

Ibrahim Takahashi is the leading wicket-taker for Japan in the current squad. He has taken 48 wickets in 56 T20Is at an exceptional economy rate of 5.62. 12 players in the squad are the regulars in the Japan T20I team.

Tsuyoshi Takada, Jake Kusuda-Nairn, and Alester Kadowaki-Fleming are three players who received a promotion to the national side from A team. India have not announced the squad yet.

But there are high chances that India will field a similar squad, which will feature in the Asian Games 2026. Though India can add some new faces to the team for this game.
