Jasprit Bumrah has played two matches and picked 12 wickets in the ongoing ENG vs IND test series.
Will Jasprit Bumrah play for India in the fourth test against England that will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23? With India 1-2 down in the five-test series, Bumrah’s playing becomes a huge advantage.
Before the test series began, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Bumrah would play only three matches to minimize his workload. Head coach Gautam Gambhir supported the proposal, opting to rest the pace spearhead for the second test in Birmingham, despite mounting pressure to keep him after his stunning performance in the series opener at Headingley, Leeds.
In Bumrah’s absence, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep rose to the occasion, both taking five-wicket hauls as India cruised to a 336-run victory to tie the series.
But experts once again urged Bumrah to be included in the crucial test match at Old Trafford after India’s 22-run loss in the third test at the Lord’s, and team management may just do so.
“There will be a leaning…” – Ryan ten Doeschate hints at Jasprit Bumrah playing in Manchester
The rumors that Jasprit Bumrah might play in the fourth test match of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 against England were virtually put to rest on Thursday by India’s assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate.
After India’s first practice for the fourth test, Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed Bumrah’s participation in a media interview on Thursday.
“We’ll make that call in Manchester. We know we’ve got him for one of the last two tests. I think it’s pretty obvious the series is on the line now in Manchester, so there will be a leaning towards playing him,” Doeschate said at a press conference.
Jasprit Bumrah had picked up a fifer in the Lord’s test and with 7-8 days of rest before the Manchester test, will be raring to go to save India the blushes in Manchester.
If India keep their word, this will be Bumrah’s first outing at Old Trafford. India are yet to win a test match in Manchester. In nine previous attempts at the location, they have lost four to England and drawn five.
