Jasprit Bumrah was the Player of the Tournament in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with 15 scalps.
Indian veteran speedster Jasprit Bumrah is riding high after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June. The 30-year-old took 15 wickets in eight matches and was the second-highest wicket-taker for Team India, just behind seamer Arshdeep Singh (17). Bumrah was rewarded with the Player of the Tournament award.
The right-arm pacer Bumrah has been given a rest from the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka and is expected to be in action during the Test series against Bangladesh in September.
Jasprit Bumrah’s cheeky response when asked about his favorite India skipper
The 30-year-old Bumrah made his ODI and T20I debut against Australia in January 2016, under the captaincy of legendary MS Dhoni. Under Virat Kohli, the Ahmedabad-born cricketer Bumrah made his Test debut against South Africa in January 2018.
He has played a lot of his cricket under Rohit Sharma, and won multiple IPL titles and recently the T20 World Cup crown.
Since Bumrah’s debut in international cricket, the Indian speedster has played under Dhoni, Kohli, and Rohit Sharma. However, the 30-year-old Bumrah ignored all three greats when he was asked about the greatest Indian skipper in history.
Bumrah cheekily replied that his favorite captain has always been himself. Bumrah has previously captained India in a Test match against England in 2022 and in an away T20I series against Ireland. Currently, Bumrah is the vice-captain of the Indian Test team.
“See, my favourite captain is me because I have captained a few games. Obviously, there are great captains but I would take my name that I am my favourite captain,” Bumrah said when asked to pick the greatest Indian captain by The Indian Express.
