Jasprit Bumrah is also a part of India’s squad for the Asian Games 2026.

Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness has once again become one of the biggest talking points surrounding Indian cricket. The premier fast bowler’s workload has been carefully managed by the Indian management over the past few seasons. These precautions were taken keeping his injury history in mind. The Indian management has ensured that his sudden return to action does not come at the cost of his long-term unavailability.

Jasprit Bumrah played the first two ODI matches against England before being ruled out with a swelling in his knee ahead of the Lord’s game. Following this impact injury, Bumrah was ruled out of the Sri Lanka Test series and was at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, undergoing a period of rehabilitation.

The BCCI CoE has now declared him clinically fit and is only looking forward to watching out for his fitness in real match situations on the field. The star Indian pacer has been included in India’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan; however, his participation is subject to fitness.

According to a latest report from Sports Today, Bumrah is likely to undergo a crucial match simulation test on Wednesday, September 9, as India took to establish whether he is ready to feature against Afghanistan.

Reports have indicated that Bumrah, along with several other Indian players whose availability for the T20I series was declared subject to fitness, is scheduled to undergo match-simulation exercises before the Indian squad assembles in Delhi.

The match simulation is particularly significant because being declared clinically fit does not mean that a player is ready to take the field for an international competition. The BCCI needs assurance about the amount of intensity and workload that Bumrah can manage in a competitive match environment.

With the Afghanistan T20I series immediately followed by the Asian Games T20s, Bumrah’s return is key for India. However, the selectors have reportedly considered Prince Yadav as a backup for the premier fast bowler.

Hence, there is little reason for India to rush Bumrah if he is not completely ready. Moreover, India would aim for his complete availability for the West Indies ODIs and the New Zealand Test series.

Will Jasprit Bumrah play in the Asian Games 2026?

Jasprit Bumrah is named in India’s 15-member squad for the Asian Games 2026, but his final appearance depends on passing the impending fitness tests and managing his workload.

When did Jasprit Bumrah play his last T20I for India?

Jasprit Bumrah played his last T20I for India on March 8, 2026, against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final.
